I'm a Genius!

Ok, I'm not really a genius. But I do feel a little smarter than usual today, since I actually figured out (within the span of about 4 hours) how to create a video, edit it to add title pages, sign up for Vimeo, and publish my video there.

I haven't had much interest in making videos in the past, but I got my camera out to take pictures of my latest project, a "recycled" journal made from scraps of fabric and paper and all those little bits of things I can't bring myself to throw away:

Once I realized it would take tons of pictures to show all the pages in this journal, I realized that a video would be much more efficient, and that I could talk about the pages as I was showing them. Ok, so I'm a little behind the times, but I can catch up with a vengeance!

So, TADA! Here's my grand entrance into the world of video. The quality leaves something to be desired, but it's a starting point!

My Scrappy Journal from Michele (Textile Traveler) on Vimeo.

I hope embedding the video works, or I won't feel so smart after all :-)

Let me know what you think!

Well done, the video worked very well.

Great idea. You are gonna doodle and paint in the journal now, right? No saving it for someday....
I would suggest that you get a tripod or one of those three legged twistable things to hang your camera with so that it is completely stationary and then you can use both hands to manipulate your subject.
Next, I would say don't flap your fingers around so much. Think Vanna White when you move your hands.
I know nothing about inserting text or redoing the audio. I once made a video with the camera turned sideways for a portrait view rather than a landscape view. So learning about video the hard way is second nature to me.

You did ask for comments, right? So you're not allowed to pout, please. You can delete me. I won't know until much later.

Way to go! Congratulations on learning something new...this means you're not dead yet. ;)

I enjoyed it and it brought real meaning to scrap book. Now I've gotta learn how to do this too...the video part...not the scrap journal, or the hording..I think I'm pretty good on both!

I loved the journal and I think you did a great job with the video!

Thanks for your comments, everyone! Diane, I won't delete you; I think you pinpointed a lot of my problems. I actually filmed this with my Blackberry and couldn't figure out how to attach it to anything. My nephew suggested duct-taping to my forehead, but I don't need a facial peel right now. I also know what you mean about the hands-thing. I talk more with my hands than my mouth, so getting them to be still is always a problem :-)

Thank you for sharing!

Michele, this is sooooo cool! Did you take the Remains of the Day online journal class...one of my friends did and her journal turned out really nice too!

Yes! I did take the class. I mention Mary Ann Moss at the end of the video, but I should do it here, too. I was in a long creative drought and that class pepped me right up and got me back into the studio working on something! I'm thrilled!

ooooo, your nephew is onto something. Blackberry Miners Lamp. Elastic band around your forehead, camera looks where you look... it could work.

Great journal and video Michele.
Hope you're feeling better and back to 100%. I also enjoyed your post about Citrasolv, that looks like fun!
Take care, Beth

Great journal, I'm inspired to get busy on ROD #3. I didn't notice your hand movements, or camera issues, because the pages had all my attention. Videography is a different course! I say: It was wonderful, authentic, not too polished, and needs no improvements.
